Answer by Donathan C
Get the Peavy Vypyr (15 watt or 30)
Nice model amp with some killer effects if you get a switchboard (which is completely optional)

  1. Hello there,

Gain and distortion put a heavy workload on an amp. So you need more power than you would otherwise just to have enough headroom. Most inexpensive amps will not have that. They also usually have small speakers that make you sound thin and tinny; not the sound you want for distortion. Therefore I suggest you should get a 1×12 combo. The 12 inch speaker will have a richer fuller tone. Because 1×12 (30 watts and up) have more power than small practice amps (10 to 25 watts) they will handle gain and distortion much better. A good but inexpensive small combo is the Line 6 Spider 30 watt 1×12. It is easy to use. It has some built in effects like distortion, reverb, delay, and chorus. The 12 inch Celestion speaker has a good tone. They are not expensive new. There usually some used ones on the market so you may find one at a bargain price.
