Hi, I am intersted in starting electric guitar and am looking for a REALITIVLY cheap guitar. However, I don’t want it to last me just a year and then be bored with it or have it fall apart. Plus I also really like American Made products (i.e. Gibson and Fender). I was personally thinking of a highway one series stratocaster from fender. I can get it new for about $ 600 dollars. I also saw the epiphone G-400, but know that it is not made in the US. I can get it for between $ 300-$ 500. Basicly, should I drop the extra couple houndred and get the fender, or go for the G-400. I know fender is MUCH more realiable and better made. I also think it will probably last me longer, which is why I am leaning towards it. Also, how is the Gibson Meledy Maker. I am looking for some other opinions. Thanks
P.S. If anyone can think of a guitar in that same price range that is better, please write that also
Also what would be the best wood for a neck for me to get.
Thank
you guys are probably right about getting the cheaper guitar
So, anything good on a gibson melody maker or epiphone,
They are both in the $ 300 dollar range

I like gibson sg is sound good and warm sound do you like rock heavey it good for you .You can see picture school of rock .
you dont want to spend too much on a guitar if ur new…u may end up quitting which is what alot of ppl do- even if u say that theres no way youll quit, everyone says that and theres a chance you do end up quitting unless u really pick up fast and u can play music u enjoy because at the beginning unless u work REALLY hard youll end up getting bored..
but now that thats out there, ive been playing guitar for a few years and the first guitar i got was a cheap starter pack for like 150 that included a bag and a crappy amp.. if u want to spend a few hundred as u do ull also have to buy a decent amp…but my advice is to start with one of those and then in about a year or so upgrade if you are really still into guitar. because if your at that early stage, to you it wont really make a difference how your guitar sounds if your playing easy generic songs. otherwise if your dead set on getting something well known..stick with a cheap ibanez, theyre really good guitars for the money and ive had mine for 2 years and it still sounds great
The upper end Epiphone guitars are every bit as good as any Fender instrument. Nowadays great instruments are made all over the world, not just in america. ESP and Ibanez are examples of top notch instruments that are not american made (they are from japan) Korea and India also make fine instruments that will stand up to many years of useage. If you are a beginer than a basic instrument from any of these companies is fine and with the money you save you can get a decent amp and a few months of lessons.
If you have never played guitar than you should start on an acoustic not an electric because the slightly larger strings and neck of an acoustic help build strength, dexterity, and most importantly coordination, much faster than an electric will.
