No you don’t need to master the acoustic before you make the trasition to electric.
‘Mastering’ the acoustic guitar takes years and if you prefer the style of play that an electric guitar has to offer you should change to prevent you getting bored.
However it is a good idea to get the basic’s on acoustic before trying the electric guitar as it is easyer to play with a larger guitar and more space between the strings.
Hope this helps

  1. You can and should start on an electric guitar if that’s where your interests lie. It’ll keep you more motivated while you’re learning. There is absolutely no reason for someone interested in the electric guitar to have to start out on an acoustic guitar.

Good luck, and don’t forget to get lessons.

  2. No you don’t have to start off with the acoustic. Many people prefer to learn with the acoustic first, but it’s pretty much the same thing.
I didn’t start off with an acoustic, i started with an electric guitar :D

  3. Yes. Can you drive a car before you’ve mastered a go-cart? :) Just saying to play what makes you happy. Go for it! And like Mikey said, don’t forget those lessons.

  4. Just do it!, get yourself a cheap electric, like Ibanez Gio or a Fender Squire and start learning the sonic differences between electric and acoustic. the notes are set up the same, but the sound difference and abilities are totally different, JUST DO IT!
