Best answer about can you replace electric guitar strings with acoustic guitars strings?
Answer by bladecrimson
As long as the strings a metal yes, but what horrible sound and action that would be!
GHS Boomers .009 Walmart Super cnter sells ‘em now!
What do you think? Answer below!
yes, but they won’t be as sensitive to the pickup… go with Ernie Ball or Diadarrio (did I spell that right?) You could always make some out of steel wire from a hardshop if you don’t care about intonation.
I suppose you could but you’re not supposed to. I tried it once and it sounded a bit naff. And try Ernie ball guitar strings
i dont think so, they probably wouldnt fit, and electric guitars make sounds from the pickups, whereas acoustics have a sound hole to project sound…thats the logic of it anyway, i havent actually tried
i use ernie ball slinky strings for my electric guitar, i think theyre reasonably priced for its quality, look around online for cheaper deals. D’Addrio are really good strings too and pretty well priced
yes you can, but i wouldnt suggest it..cause it will sound a bit different, and then soon you will find yourself getting back to acoustic strings ( if you are using an acoustic guitar that is ), thats why they have different names acoustic and electric right,
trust me i have tried it myself, and ended up replacing them
Acoustic guitar strings are usually made from phosphor bronze, electric guitar strings are usually made from nickel. Nickel provides a much stronger magnetic interaction with the pickups on an electric guitar. Acoustic guitars strings will work, but sure won’t sound right.
Why do you want to change over anyway? Is it because you don’t like the loose feeling of the electric strings? Get a heavier gauge electric string. Some of the heaviest gauge electric strings approach the tension of acoustic guitar strings and sound great. Stevie Ray Vaughan used the heaviest strings he could find, and he had an awesome sound!
As far as brands go, I like the Ernie Balls.
“Acoustic steel strings will fit on an electric guitar, but they are heavier than that used on an electric guitar, and this can damage the instrument.”
I prefer D’Addario for electric guitar strings, but there are quite a few to choose from. The site below has some examples and also has a search facility for strings.
Definitely not a good idea,
Could mess up the woodwork of your electric, and if you have a bolt-on neck, it could become warped very slowly and certain frets will cease to even create a tone. So I’d say spend the extra two bucks and a trip to guitar center rather than risk the well-being of your beloved electric! : )
Also, nylon strings are going to run you about 4 bucks ahead of most electric strings… For a REALLY durable and thorough sounding string, I’d go with DR’s (They come in like 7 different colors, so that’s always cool.) But for cheapness? I’d go with your standard Gibsons, you can even get them at Wal-Mart for like 3.99 for a pack of 6.
Good luck!
