I’m looking to buy myself an electric guitar soon but I don’t have any experience at all with them which would cause some problems when it comes time for me to choose one. I need information from someone who actually plays the electric guitar and can point me in the right direction as to which guitar I should buy.
First of all, the kind of music I’d like to play is AC/DC-ish kind of stuff, so anything that makes that kind of sound would be great. I also need an AMP I guess… Tell me everything I’ll need because I don’t know
I’d like to not have to spend *too much* money on all of this since I am going to be a beginner (19 years old; Yeah, it sucks to be a beginner at that age. Wish I could have learned earlier.)
Any information I get is helpful. Thanks!

can’t go wrong with marshalls.
What do you think? Answer below!
ok well i work for Guitar Center and we have a million guitars that are inexpensive as well as expensive…
you can go with a little marshall amp cause it does provide some good tone…and as far as the guitar…well if u want that kind of sound if u like ac/dc go with an epiphone les paul or epiphone SG
and as far as learning i know we have like a million books that show u many many beginning lessons (some even come with DVD’s…whoooo INTERACTION haha)…
maybe depending on how serious u are about learning…try one on one lessons…that works wonders for a lot of people i have dealt with
if ur trying to stay free and on the web
try picking some of ur fav songs and try and learn it on a guitar tab website:
ex: ultimateguitar.com
911tabs.com
but yea learning a fav song can be more exciting and it will make u want to stick with it…but i know the ultimateguitar.com website has many many lessons on it
anyways if u need any other help try calling a local Guitar Center we would all be glad to help u
Buy a starter kit.
Fender Squier is a great guitar to start out on.
The kit includes an amplifier, a guitar, guitar case (soft one) guitar method book, headphones, chromatic tuner, strap, cable, a set of strings, and picks.
You can buy it at Guitar Center
They are about $ 280.00, but sometime you can find a smaller package for less.
Good luck!
look for korean brands…they’re pretty good
Cort guitars they might have sg replica…i use to have a les paul custom replica…it rocks!!!
Well, to be perfectly honest, most any electric guitar will do for starters. Do some checking around for any used guitars that have Humbucker pickups on them, as that is what Angus is using most of the time.
What you want is a guitar that FINGERS easily, as the most common complaint of beginners is that the action on the guitar is hard on their tender fingers. Make it easy on yourself.
Ya, it would be nice if you could find a reasonably priced Marshall amp somewhere; people are selling used stuff all the time. Check eBay, too.
But again, any amp that has circuitry giving you an overdrive sound will do for starters. You can even buy really cheap effects pedals that give good distortion sounds.
Just take your time, don’t fret too much about buying “name brand” stuff unless you find a real deal or have the $ $
Start out with something affordable but PLAYABLE. You can always upgrade as you improve.
Fender/Squier Stratocasters and Gibson/Epiphone Les Pauls & SGs are generally the most popular among beginning players. Both Fender and Epiphone make guitar amps as well, however, Peavey and Marshal are well-know for thier amps. The best way of determining your preferences is to go to a store and try the equipment.
Stratocasters have a sharper tone. In general they have single-coil pick-ups, which give them a slightly grainier sound, especially when played through overdrive/distortion. Squier produces a cheaper version of the Strat, however the guitars’ quality is lacking when compared to the Fender models, which cost slightly more (depending on the exact model and where it was manufactured).
Gibson and Epiphone produce Les Paul guitars. There are several available models of the Les Paul from both companies. The Les Paul Standard features two humbucking pick-ups. Humbuckers, unlike single-coils, have a less scratchy tone, and alightly richer tone. Epiphone’s models utilize slightly lower quality materials, but generally are quite dependable. The Gibson models are made with higher grade materials, and thus cost more. I personally prefer Les Pauls to Fender Strats, however both are exellent guitars.
As far as amplifiers go, Marshal makes a wide variety of combo amps (an amp head and sspeaker in a single unit). For a beginner a combo amp is recomended. Fender, Epiphone and Peavey also produce comperable amplifiers. Additionally, DO NOT buy too large of an amp, if you are going to only be playing in a small space (which a beginner generally will), buy a smaller amp, 10 watts should be sufficient. You should be able to turn the amp up to about 5 without disturbing anybody (this improves the sustain of the notes you play).
I play through a Marshal MG Series amp, however, a smaller amp without effects will do just as well for a beginner. All you really need is an amp with both a clean and an overdrive channel.
Again, I strongly recoment going to a store, such as a Guitar Center, and trying the above equipment, and a few others. A salesperson should be glad to show you how to use the equipment, demonstate for you, and make recomendations on thier own. As I stated, I play a Les Paul (go for the Epiphone as a beginner) through a Marshall amp (I suggest a smaller amp to start with). Besides that you will only need a cable (not too long since you won’t be gigging anytime soon), picks(heavey or medium), a strap, and some form of instruction (lessons work best, teaching yourself often does more harm than good to your technique).
You can read reviews of electric guitars on ebay. Here’s the direct link.
I love my Marshall amplifier! It’s great! Definitely get a small Marshall amp, they are good for AC/DC-ish type stuff on Overdrive mode. Even though I play mostly Jazz, Reggae, Latin and Surf music, I know that Ibanez guitars are great for the type of music you want to play. I also have a friend who is a begginer, who has an Ibanez, so it’s good for beginners too. My first guitar was an Epiphone, but now I have a Yamaha. You could try any of those brands, but I would go with either Ibanez or Epiphone, since Yamaha is kind of pricy.
first act guitars are real cheap and a small peavey amp is good to to start with.
