Cheap Electric Guitars? Prices?

Im kinda bored with my old acoustic, looking to buy a cheap electric guitar with an amp. All the guitars on ebay dont include amps and are usually like 500 bucks. I know walmart has those cheap crappy 80 dollar electrics and i think including amp. Does anyone own any of those walmart ones? and are they any good?
also does anyone know any cheap and good guitars? i heard the fender starcaster isnt too pricy

  1. Trust me, if you get a cheap guitar, you won’t want to play it once you get it. Really, to get an instrument worth playing, you’ll want to pay $ 300-500 for the instrument alone, not including the amp or anything. You’ll also have to think about what kind of style you want to play. Guitars are constructed differently to produce different tones for varying styles, so that’s something you’ll want to think about.

If you want a guitar that has bad playability, will easily warp, sounds bad and is no fun to play, then you could pay $ 80 for a Wal-mart guitar. Just remember that you’ll probably be throwing away $ 80 on an item which will more than likely end up sitting in your basement, collecting dust. Even if it’s just going to be a hobby, a Wal-mart guitar isn’t worth it.

Your best bet is to find a local guitar shop, tell the employees the sort of thing you’re looking for, and they can point you in the best direction.

  2. you could maybe buy a sonora one, i got one when i was about your age and it was around 80 dollars, and if you put some good strings (buy a set for like 5-10 dollars) and it will be great, i still use it

  3. There are some decent cheapy combo packs at Guitar Center, Sam Ash, etc., but you’re probably better off just going through Musician’s Friend. They ship free and don’t charge tax, plus you won’t have to haul it home from the store.

Most of those Ibanez or Epiphone packages are a great place to start and are usually around $ 200 for everything. I bought this Epiphone one for my ex and it was decent. http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/Epiphone-Les-Paul-Junior-Electric-Gutiar-and-All-Access-Amp-Pack?sku=513158

Here’s a complete list of packages (most should have reviews)…
