Does getting an expensive electric guitar really sound better than a cheap one?

Ive been playin the guitar for four years. Started of electric but moved to acoustic as i couldnt get a good rock sound. Ive now realised solos will test my guitar ability and make me a better player. Now that ive starting to use an electric it dosent sound that great comin out of a fender amp i think its a 68FM??? With a g1 effects pedal. But my friends gibson les paul sounds a lot better. Im 16 atm and am savin up for a car. Is it worth buyin an expensive guitar?

not necessarily. Ibanez at the start used to be really primitive, their copies were much better than originals and many musicians played on copies.
some say that even Strats are better than real Fenders .

  1. If you’re going to go somewhere with it. If you’re only practicing, it doesn’t matter. If you are playing live shows or recording; however, that is a different’ story. It does make a difference though.

  2. It’s mainly all in the effects you have tuned with your amp. However some guitars let you alter the bridge etc, doing so you can find the right string action, which can add towards a good sound.

Is it worth buying an expensive guitar? I’d say no, maybe a moderately expensive guitar. Although it’s not really in the price you should be looking at it’s the quality of the guitar and if it meets your needs.

  3. the way the guitar sounds depends on how you set your amp your guitar what pickups u are using and ehat amp you have but a floor pod o something like that can help u get sounds from diferent amps and guitars

  4. in the $ 2000 ones, not much (it does sundd alot better, but theres nothing you cant do on a $ 400 guitar). but in the really high end ones, definitely. i tried a Jimmy Page Les Paul ($ 7k!) in a shop and almost soiled myself!

  5. Hello there,

I guess the answer depends on your priorities. Without knowing what guitar you already have, I think its hard to say if another guitar will sound better. Your amp gets mixed reviews. Most like the clean channel but not the drive channel. If you play with pedals, you probably already put those through the clean channel. Also, without knowing what your plans are for the guitar, it is hard to say much. If you are playing in a band and feel you need a better guitar, that is one thing. If on the other hand, you play for your own enjoyment, that is a totally different matter. I always come back to what your priorities are. Which do you want more, a car or a more expensive guitar? That really is the answer to your question.
